Although Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa are different between them, they compliment one to each other.  In Zihuatanejo, the old fishermen village atmosphere remain, and here in town, we hope will remain forever. You still can enjoy a seaside walk feeling the freedom of almost being part of this town.

Zihuatanejo still has the look of a small fishing port, with its  main dock downtown, and the "fishermen walk" where you can see the fishermen selling the catch of the day at 6:00 a.m. everyday.

This is Zihuatanejo, but, curiously (or maybe that is why), you can find here, a very exclusive hotel or a private luxury villa overlooking Zihuatanejo's bay. The most  exclusive accommodations are here, not in Ixtapa. We are talking about lodgings like Hotel La Casa Que Canta or Villa Del Sol Hotel, including Villa Vera Puerto Mio Hotel.

Nevertheless, there is also small places with a special Mexican touch, that makes a combination of a small luxury hotel (not being yet), and a very affordable place to stay. See: Brisas del Mar Hotel on Madera Beach featuring large suites with private terraces  all with ocean view. By the way, here is where you also can find the most economic hotel rates.

By the other hand, Ixtapa, is the first class destination. The Hotels here range from four to five stars, and some Grand Tourism.

Ixtapa is a Government project that begun in 1972, altogether with Cancun and Huatulco.

Ixtapa  was built for those who knowing of the  popularity of Zihuatanejo as a small village ideal to rest and meet the real Mexico, wished to stay in first class Hotels.

So, here we are, we have not only first class accommodations in Ixtapa like Krystal Ixtapa Hotel  but some lodgings offering villas and condos, or all inclusive hotels like Barcelo Ixtapa Hotel, and budget hotels like Villas Paraiso Hotel.

There is also places to stay that offers suites with equipped  kitchen like Ixtapa Palace Hotel, at very affordable rates.

Some hotels in Ixtapa Mexico, offers also some extras, like Continental Ixtapa Hotel, that give their customers free passes (green fee) to play golf in their own Golf Course. By the way, Ixtapa Palace Hotel, give free use of the only Aquatic Park in the area: Magic World, that belong to the same Company.

Almost all Ixtapa Hotels are on the beach, like Radisson Ixtapa Hotel, that also offers free nights after 3 or 4 nights paid. Some of the most large and luxurious suites in Ixtapa, are found at Riviera Beach Resort, and a 100 % family hotel with promotions all year round, is Posada Real Ixtapa on the beach, too.  Club Med Ixtapa Hotel  make the best offer for family entertainment, noticing that their location is a little secluded, at the north end of Ixtapa Hotels Zone, near Qualton Hotel in the same area..
